Our Journals: Camille Trenter

Camille Trenter

When we first opened Zoë & Morgan in City Works Depot, Camille was one of our first employees. One of the great honours of owning a business is meeting people from all walks of life, and seeing them evolve either within the team or on their own career path. It's been a delight to stay in touch with Camille over the years and to see her become a loving mama herself. We spoke to Camille about how motherhood has changed how she sees the world, and staying connected to herself.

Tell us a little about your family and one favourite activity you enjoy doing together.

My beautiful family consists of my husband Luke and I, our sweet daughter Georgia who is three, and our smiley baby Toby who is six months old. At the moment, we are fortunate to live within walking distance to Cornwall Park. Our favourite activity as a family are walks through Cornwall Park together, looking at the animals and scootering down the twin oaks drive.

How would you describe the feeling of becoming a mum for the very first time, and how has that moment stayed with you over time?

Becoming a mum for the first time was surreal. After Georgia was born, I couldn’t quite process what my body had just done. It didn’t feel real. I gained such a deep respect for what women's bodies are capable of and how much they can endure.

How has motherhood changed the way you see the world?

Motherhood has made me slow down and be more present. I find myself appreciating things I would have previously rushed through. It’s also made me more aware of how quickly time passes and how meaningful it is to create memories as a family and for my children. It’s put a sense of magic back into me that I probably haven’t felt since I was a child. Being able to create that magic for my kids with things like fairies, the Easter Bunny, and Santa, and making their childhood feel special in those simple ways.

Is there something your own mother did that you now find yourself doing, even without thinking?

I find myself carrying over the same softness I was given as a child by my mum. The little pet names and comforts that just come out without thinking. Sometimes I don’t even realise I’m doing it until I’m around my mum and notice it’s the same things she did with me.

How do you stay connected to yourself while navigating motherhood, and what helps you hold onto your sense of identity in this season of life?

I have made sure, with hindsight of course, to be intentional about carving out time for myself now as a mum to two. I make time for walks, having a seated coffee out, and going out for dinner with my husband. Sometimes it takes a bit of juggling or sacrifice, but it’s something I enjoy. I’ve also been really lucky to have amazing mum friends and helpful parents who support that, offering to help, hold space, and step in when needed.

What part of motherhood do you feel is often unseen or unspoken, but deeply meaningful to you?

I think one of the most unseen parts of motherhood is the mental load that comes with it. You’re constantly thinking about sleep, feeding, routines, meals, what needs to be done, what’s coming up. It’s everything from packing lunchboxes to remembering birthdays and making sure your kids have the right clothes for each season. It doesn’t really switch off, even when you get a moment to yourself.

It’s such a big part of being a mum, and I find you really level up as a person. Things that used to feel stressful don't carry the same weight anymore, and your ability to manage and multitask grows in a way that carries into every part of life. It's this constant that often goes unnoticed.

What is something your children have taught you about yourself?

My children have taught me that I have the patience of a saint! But in all seriousness, they’ve actually taught me how to be a mum. There’s no rule book for parenting, you really learn through them, and they bring out a level of patience and compassion you didn’t even know you had.
